Who is Hucco Lotus?
I should be asking you the same question.
By profession, I am a marine science student hoping to get admitted to a Master's programme by the end of this year. But you didn't come here for that, did you?
I am proudly Malaysian-Chinese, hailing from the former mining town of Puchong, and love to explore my relationship with my heritage through my art and writing. I enjoy trying different foods but am sadly restricted by my weak stomach. I get migraines easily, which makes me dislike a lot of things, though I try to keep those opinions to myself these days.
History of me, I guess.
I started my artistic journey as an unsupervised child on DeviantArt, but I barely interacted with anyone on the site. In late 2016, my K-pop obsessed classmate convinced me to download Amino, and that was when I got my first taste of community and an interest in exploring myself creatively. Later, I would jump between using Instagram and Tumblr, never knowing where to commit. What a frivolous woman I am.
Eventually, most of my friends settled on Instagram, and there I would stay as well. I never had many followers for my first few years there, but I did not care, because social media sucks.
During the pandemic, I tried to create an educational webcomic about our solar system, but I lost motivation when I realized a popular artist on Instagram was stalking me with alt accounts and plagiarizing my worldbuilding and designs. So I swung the pendulum all the way to the other side and started developing my OCs based on Malaysian Chinese folklore, because it would raise hella alarm bells if a non-Asian artist started posting about that as if they were their own.
Unfortunately for my original characters, I am currently busy creating illustrations for my professor's research and preparing for my final year research project. But I will post doodles and drabbles in the meantime. That is the main reason I created this website, to serve as a blog where I collect my personal thoughts and rambles about my OCs, all in the same place.
Oh, you want to see the illustrations? Nah, I'm not letting myself go through the heartbreak of being plagiarized again, lol.
